CSX Intermodal is raising its monthly fuel surcharge by 18 percent, beginning this week.
The CSXI surcharge is one of the highest among major railroads. Union Pacific Railroad’s surcharge is going up 10 percent while Norfolk Southern Railway plans no increase for much of the freight it carries.
CSXI raised its fuel surcharge by 13.5 percent in June. The company adjusts its surcharge on the first Monday of each month, based on fluctuations in the U.S. Department of Energy’s price index.
