Sen. Charles Schumer is criticizing commuter railroads in the New York area for acting too slowly to install wireless Internet service for their customers.
The New York Democrat mentioned Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad as taking too long with Internet service compared with railroads in Texas, California and Utah.
Amtrak has been a leader with wireless service, providing WiFi service in stations that allows customers to connect to the Internet. Passengers also can make Amtrak reservations with wireless communication devices.
New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said they are studying the feasibility of wireless service for customers.
