Canadian Pacific Railway is joining a public-private venture to improve security at the Windsor, Ontario border crossing.
Canadian Pacific officials say the improvements will help speed up freight transit times through the gateway.
The U.S. and Canadian governments are contributing to the $6.9 million in improvements that include surveillance systems, new lighting and fencing. The 4.7-mile “Windsor Secure Rail Corridor” project also includes track reconfigurations as well as signal and communication system modifications.
Previously, Canadian Pacific made grade separations at the border crossing to speed train traffic flow.
“CP strongly supports efforts to increase cross-border security through partnerships such as the Windsor Secure Rail Corridor,” said Canadian Pacific Chief Executive Officer Fred Green in a statement.
